Don’t want cats in your yard? That’s totally fair...
and there are ways to discourage them that are both humane and legal.
Here are a few things that work:
- Motion-activated sprinklers
- Ultrasonic animal repellents
- Scents cats dislike: citrus, vinegar, peppermint
- Textured surfaces (chicken wire, plastic mats)
Avoid:
- Poison
- Loud noise traps
- Calling for removal
It is illegal to:
- Harm or poison cats
- Relocate them without cause
- Abandon them in unsafe areas
There’s no one-size-fits-all solution, but there are many tools that make a big difference. Test a few and rotate them as needed.
Most cats can be redirected without stress or harm, it just takes consistency.
Remember: caring for a community cat is not against the law, it’s an act of compassion that helps stabilize our neighborhoods.
